My Weekend Diary

Friday:
My boss' birthday required celebration. Carrot cake it is!

On my bike on my way home - Weekend on its way!

Cycling the 15 km route back and forth has its pros and cons. On a day like this: Mostly pros.

Reading interior decoration magazines. A bunch of them! Whenever I find something inspirational, I snap a picture of it to keep it in mind. I love the photo collage in this snapshot.

Another great idea that I will carry out as soon as I have a spare moment....
Saturday:

Time for vernissage! My talented mother in law, Turid Dørum, opened her first solo exhibition  at Døla Atelier in Lillehammer. I am so proud of her!

Family Dinner

Look how beautiful the sun reflects the interior!

Sunday:
Pit stop on our way home at Minne Gårdskafé in Minnesund (Trondheimsveien 597)

Loved the interior!

And their coffee menu! Just keep in mind that the service can be quite slow.  Obviously,  people in rural areas have all the time in the world... Fortunately, they have a bunch of magazines available to forget about the wait:)

Just like my grandparents' living room!

Industrial chic perfectly mixed with rural charm.
That was a glimpse of my weekend, that unfortunately is about to come to an end. That's how the story goes... See you next week!

Front Row Fashionistas

The fashion weeks are rolling, and the show is equally much off the runway as on. Here is three personal favourites from the London Fashion Week.
Caroline Sieber at Topshop Unique

Nicola Roberts (Julia's niece) at Bora Aksu

Olivia Palermo at Topshop Unique
Three very different, but all very contemporary looks. Something to copy for the weekend? Whatever look you opt for, I wish you all a good one!

Stunningly Beautiful

A romanticized version of life. King Kreosote and Jon Hopkins team up with a project called Diamond Mine. These tunes make you want to lie in a field of flowers with nothing but beautiful thoughts in your head.
Mmm....

Today's Look: Silk and leather

Here I am. With my face and everything! I am usually quite shy about showing off my entire look here on the blog. That is why I usually crop my pictures. But then again, how much harm can it do? This time I give you one of each kind. With and without. Satisfied or horrified?

Outfit details: Leather jacket: All Saints. Silk snodd: By Marlene Birger. Shirt and skirt: H&M. Necklace: A lucky flea-market find.

The BEST nail polish remover

I simply cannot stop bragging about this genius product. Say goodbye to stinky cotton pads and inefficient nail polish removers that can be hard on your nails, too! Just dip your fingers into the foam for one minute and let the magic happen.

Sephora's express nail polish remover makes good on its promise in....

2

3!
C'est magique! And best of all: It's without acetone or parabens and is gentle on the nails. It doesn't smell too bad, either. Love it!
I bought my bottle in Paris, but I'm pretty sure you can get hold of this little jar of magic in most Sephora outlets (although I couldn't find it online)

Delivery!

I have decided to take action against hair damage! Hopefully these helpers will prevent my hair from breakage and thermal wear, fight the fade, reduce split ends and boost volume and shine. Optimistic?!

I will let you know in a while how the progress go. I bought everything from Lookfantastic. They have a great sale going on these days, so check it out!

New in: G-Star Raw Chinos

I went Saturday shopping with my hubby and ended up with a new pair of pants! What do you think? The silhouette is a bit different from what I am used to, but they are indeed very comfortable.

When it comes to fashion, Joanna Hillman, Senior Market Editor of Harper's Bazaar, sure knows how to walk the talk. Her look is ever-changing, but her sense of style is solid. I love how she balances elegance with edge. And the red lips... I like!

Blast From the Past

I never grow tired of glossy magazines. Flicking through the pages of fashion magazines from earlier decades brings back lots of memories and puts me right back to the past.
Past fashion spreads are also a great source of inspiration for creating looks of today. Just check out these covers from the 1990s and take a trip down the memory lane...

US Vogue March 1998. On the cover: Kate Moss and Amber Valletta
Vogue Italia March 1997. On the cover: Amber Valletta and Naomi Campbell.

French Glamour October 1993. On the cover: Kate Moss styled by Carine Roitfeld, captured by Mario Testino.

French Glamour. February1994
UK Vogue December 1992. On the cover: Bono and Christy Turlington.

French Glamour. September 1992. On the cover: Claudia Schiffer.

Today I broke in my lovely floral skirt. I really like how the colors add a new dimension to the entire look. I presume it will be a new seasonal favorite, already picturing it teamed up with an olive green parkas...

Outfit details: Skirt: H&M Trend. Ruffle sleeveless blouse: Second hand from L.A. Blazer: Tiger. Tights: Dim. Shoes: Eden Shoes. Watch and laptop bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Personal Favorites in Paris

After more than ten visits over the past years, I have picked up a good amount of favorite spots in this fantastic city of Paris. Here, I share a few of them with you. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment.

Where to begin?

TASTE: Ladurée
This legendary tea room and pastry shop brand sells fifteen thousands macarons every day, for one reason only - they are simply the best (well, those from Pierre Hermès are not that bad either...)
There are four shops throughout Paris (plus one in Versailles and one at Roissey), of which the one in 16 Rue Royale (Metro: Place de Madelaine) is the oldest. Here, decadent Parisiens have indulged  fine bakery since 1862. Must visit!
Their website is really sweet, too!

SEE: La Tour Eiffel
A classic monument of beauty. The tower is best viewed from the end of Rue de l'Université - away from all the Asian hordes of tourists. This is where this photo is taken. Very romantic, too!

SHOP: Vintage at Free'P'Star - 20 Rue de Rivoli (Metro: St. Paul)
This is the best of the three Free'P'Star secondhand stores. If you enjoy treasure hunting, this one is a gem! Here is where I found my ostrich leather handbag and a very unique leather sweater (pictured below), priced twenty and ten euros respectively.

Free'P'Star

Vintage leather sweater - too cool to be left in the shop!

Palace Vintage  - 40 Rue de Rivoli
This relatively new boutique is jammed with vintage designer clothing, modern secondhand stuff, shoes, bags etc etc. The woman behind it all is really sweet, especially if you compliment her store:) I found some really nice items here: An oversized sweater from Sonia Rykiel (80 euros) and a flowery silk tunic (20 euros). Both in mint condition.

Come on Eileen - 16/18 Rue des Taillandiers
A ten minutes walk towards la Bastille you will find another vintage haven. This is also fully equipped with treasures from chic French ladies' wardrobes. Well worth a visit!

EAT CHIC: Pershing Hall - 49 Rue Pierre Charron
If you want to dine in style in the terrace of the chic hotel, Pershing Hall, this is the place to be (and to be seen). Make sure you order “L’assiette Pershing“, the perfect dish including panko prawns, nem, black cod, foie gras, scallop carpaccio and so much more. Yum!

Very elegant atmosphere. Dress up!

NIGHT OUT: L'ARC - 12 Rue de Presbourg
Well after midnight, it is time to dance your butt off at one of Paris' many clubs. I always have a good time at L'ARC, which is located just ahead of L'Arc de Triomphe. A trendy, yet friendly crowd, contemporary decor, and eclectic music that will undoubtedly put you in a dancing mood. Could you ask for more?
Approaching L'Arc...

SUNDAY BRUNCH IN MARAIS - Le Loire dans la Theiere, 3 rue de Rosiers
Don't be put of by the line of people outside this popular Marais café. Once you're in, it is worth the wait. The relaxed atmosphere, its inviting armchairs and mouth watering tarts will soon want you to export the whole place to you hometown.
Afterwards, spend a few hours wandering in the cosy neighborhood and enjoy the Sunday open boutiques - like a true Parisian!
That's all for now, folks! I could go on forever, but I am almost falling asleep...

Bonne nuit!
